What makes a template "ATS friendly", concretely
The phrase gets used loosely. Here is what it means in practice, and what every template in this pack does.
One column, always
Parsers read across the page. A sidebar guarantees your skills get interleaved with your job titles. Every layout here is a single flow, top to bottom.
No tables or text boxes
Content inside a table cell or a floating text box is frequently skipped entirely. Alignment is done with tabs and spacing that survive extraction.
Contact in the body
Anything in a document header or footer is routinely dropped. Your email and phone sit in the first lines of the body where a parser will always find them.
Conventional headings
"Work Experience", not "Where I've Been". Parsers segment on known headings; a clever label means the whole block never gets mapped to a field.
One date format
Month YYYY throughout. Mixing formats means some of your roles come through with blank employment periods, and years-of-experience filters reject on that.
Safe characters
Straight quotes, plain hyphens, standard bullets. Smart quotes, en dashes and ligatures come out of older parsers as garbage and take the surrounding word with them.

Straight answers
- Will a template alone get me hired?
- No. A template fixes the mechanical failures — parsing, structure, contactability. It cannot fix a weak match between your experience and the posting. That is what the keyword worksheet is for, and if you want it done for you, that is the rewrite service.
- Do these work with Workday, Greenhouse, Taleo, iCIMS?
- They are built against the failure modes those systems share — columns, tables, headers, exotic glyphs. No one can test every vendor and every version, and anyone claiming certification by a named ATS is overstating it. What I can say is that the templates avoid the things that demonstrably break extraction.
- Can I edit them?
- Yes, they are yours. The cheatsheet tells you which edits are safe and which reintroduce the problems — mostly: do not add a sidebar, do not move contact details into the header.
